The Art Ensemble Of Chicago - People In Sorrow

Fakten People in Sorrow is a deeply introspective and spiritual work that stands as one of the group’s most profound statements. Recorded in 1969 during the band's Paris period, the album is built around extended improvisation, and it blends jazz, African musical concepts, and avant-garde abstraction. Unlike many free jazz records that foreground intensity and rupture, People in Sorrow unfolds with patience and restraint, conveying themes of grief, resilience, and communal healing. It is widely regarded as a landmark of spiritual free jazz, showcasing the Art Ensemble of Chicago’s ability to communicate profound emotion through collective improvisation and minimal means. This is the first vinyl edition of this album since 1978.
